Dead baby found in shed in Northwest Denver

DENVER - In what is the third incident of infant abandonment in recent weeks, a dead baby was found in a shed in Northwest Denver Thursday. The child was found as the home’s owner cleaned out the shed behind the house after the property’s most recent tenants moved out.


Mother charged in death of newborn left in trash can at bar

DENVER - Erin Pendleton, 29, has been charged with first-degree murder. It is alleged that on June 25, Pendleton gave birth to a baby boy and left him in a trash can at a bar in Cherry Creek North.

Following the incident, Pendleton spent 2 years in a mental facility. In February 2008 she was sentenced to 40 years in jail.


Mother charged with murder of newborn left in dumpster

DENVER - Griselle Suarez, 20 is facing first-degree murder charges after allegedly leaving her newborn baby boy in a dumpster. The baby was still alive when he was discovered, but later died at the hospital.

District Attorney Bill Ritter and Denver Police Chief Gerry Whitman held a news conference Thursday to remind residents about the Safe Haven law. “We hope would-be-mothers would take note as to the fact this happened and use this as a teaching moment,” said Ritter.


Mother arrested for abandoning newborn in closet

ADAMS COUNTY - Investigators say Jessica Maes, 19, gave birth to a baby boy on Friday, hid him in a shoebox in her closet, and left town. The baby was found by her uncle Saturday night when he heard a baby crying. Maes told police that she thought the baby was dead, was scared and didn’t know what to do. Maes has two other boys, ages 1 and 2.
